Land Search Response
The HCRU has mutual aid agreements with other rescue units and land search callouts are common. For a land search:
You should have the CalTopo app installed on your phone and know how to scan a QR code for a map and track/untrack your progress.
You should also have a spare battery bank for your phone as GPS tracking consumes lots of smartphone power.
A small backpack or front facing search/rescue pack for carrying food/water/spare clothing is advisable.
Wear your HCRU shirt to let the responders on the scene know who you are, sign in at the staging area, and follow the instructions of whoever is in charge at the scene.
